The power of thought. The problem begins when our autopilot is programmed incorrectly. In this case, we perceive the world in a distorted way because our negative thoughts and experiences cloud our vision. These patterns are deeply rooted in us – they often developed in childhood and have a lasting impact on our self-image. Thoughts such as “I’m not good enough” or “This is bound to go wrong” often arise automatically and are often beyond our conscious control. These “negative beliefs” distort our perception and prevent us from developing our full potential.

How can negative thinking be influenced?

The desire to get rid of this negative patterns is strong. They can be stressful, cause anxiety or make us feel like we are standing in our own way. However, simply wanting to suppress them often leads to them becoming even more powerful. Instead, it is important to allow them to be there without identifying with them. Thoughts are not reality – they are just one of many perspectives. It is about gaining distance from the negative assessments of the inner critic.

To illustrate the power of our thoughts, a simple exercise often helps: Imagine a bright yellow lemon. You take it in your hand, feel the rough peel, smell the fresh scent and mentally cut it open. If you imagine biting into the lemon, you may notice how your mouth tightens and produces saliva. This physical reaction shows that our brain cannot distinguish whether something is real or only exists in our imagination. This is exactly how our negative thinking works – they directly influence our emotions and physical processes.


Thought – feeling – behavior – reality

Our thinking influences our feelings, and these affect our behavior and our personal reality. Negative thoughts can cause anxiety, insecurity or nervousness, which leads to palpitations, tension or the need to withdraw. This chain of thoughts and emotions ultimately influences how we shape our future. Conversely, stressful feelings can also trigger this negative patterns in our mind. As these processes happen at lightning speed and often unconsciously, many people feel powerless in the face of their thoughts and emotions.

Social environment and thoughts

Our environment also has a significant impact on our thinking. In a toxic environment or in relationships that are characterized by conflict and misunderstanding, we tend to think negatively and lose ourselves in brooding. Peer pressure further reinforces this effect: when we are in circles where negative thinking and behaviors prevail, we begin to adopt these ways of thinking.

One phenomenon that often occurs here is “emotional contagion”. If we find ourselves in a group of people who are constantly talking about problems and worries, we will also feel worse over time, even if we were originally positive. This shows how strongly our thinking is influenced by the people around us.

Self-reflection as the key to change

It is important not only to pay attention to your social environment, but also to observe your own thoughts and words. Because what we think and say influences our brain and our lives even more directly than external influences. If we consciously choose to think positively, we can actively influence our reality and create a healthier, more successful future.
