Giardino Hotels – Longevity In The Mountains

Longevity is a term that you come across almost everywhere now. And when a hotel is involved, longevity meets lifestyle. Hotels are places of encounter. You meet other guests, other cultures – and sometimes also pioneering approaches. For example, those that can make it possible to live as long and healthy a life as possible. C&C author Nina Zeller gives an insight into the Luxury Longevity program at Giardino Hotels in Switzerland.
Longevity means living a healthy life for as long as possible. This is the approach taken by longevity research. It is primarily about lifestyle; what we eat, how often we exercise, how stressed we feel and how well we sleep. This individual part, together with modern medical methods, can extend our personal health span. So what counts is not getting as old as possible, but staying healthy for as long as possible.
What is the best way to support your own vitality? You can learn this at special retreats such as the Luxury Longevity program at the family-run Giardino Hotels. Two of the three Swiss hotels regularly welcome experts from the fields of biohacking, epigenetics, anti-ageing and metabolic medicine and invite guests to learn all about their health.
Longevity in an alpine winter landscape or Mediterranean flair
At the same time, participants can enjoy the wonderful natural surroundings during their stay. At the five-star Giardino Mountain Hotel Giardino Mountain in St. Moritz in the Engadine, it is a wintery mountain landscape with snow-covered peaks that, in combination with healthy cuisine and pretty rooms in Alpine chic, promises lasting relaxation. Further south, in the luxurious Giardino Ascona Giardino Ascona , not far from the picturesque Lake Maggiore, you are surrounded by Italian flair and a mild Mediterranean climate.
Both hotels also have a dipiù spa. A successful area where you can be pampered with massages and facials or enjoy holistic Ayurveda treatments. Pools and saunas complete the wellness offer and provide an extra dose of deep relaxation – true to the Italian name “dipiù”, which means “more”.
Movement, breathing, well-being
Daily yoga classes are also an integral part of the Giardino Longevity programs. Diana Nicoli. from Switzerland is an expert in this field. She has been practicing asanas for over 20 years and not only holds yoga and meditation classes as part of the multi-day retreats, but also lectures on breathing techniques. “Relaxing in everyday life is extremely important for our mental and physical health. And this doesn’t happen through a Netflix evening on the sofa, but by being mindful of yourself. Write down what you are grateful for every day. Get moving, take several deep, conscious breaths and go out into nature as often as you can,” advises Diana Nicoli.
Studies show that daylight has a major influence on our well-being and mood. This is because it activates the brain to release more serotonin, better known as the happiness hormone. At the same time, the stress hormone cortisol is reduced. In combination with exercise, going outside therefore puts us in a good mood and strengthens our resilience. And finally: physical activity – preferably in the fresh air – has been proven to help you stay healthy for longer.
Longevity with medical guidance
At the Giardino Longevity Retreat, two doctors, Dr. Katrin Dreissigacker and Dr. Krisztina Baráth and epigenetics expert Danijela Schenker. Denn nicht nur der Lebensstil, sondern auch die Gene haben Einfluss darauf, wie lange wir gesund bleiben.
According to the speakers, certain tests are therefore a sensible and important part of an individual longevity concept. “The better you know about your hereditary predispositions, your hormonal balance or your individual nutritional requirements, the easier it is to prevent illness,” says Dr. Krisztina Baráth.
Longevity research now knows that everyday measures such as adequate sleep, a balanced, plant-based diet and the aforementioned exercise can do a lot of good in terms of health prevention. Promising results are also hoped for from modern equipment such as the joint-friendly Siwave training tool Siwave, which uses vibrations to promote mobility and muscle strength. Another innovation: a tent called Epigenedit, which was designed for oxygen therapies to improve cell regeneration.
Different approaches
Ultimately, the longevity philosophy encompasses many different approaches. It also involves the question of dietary supplements, blood and stem cell injections, hormone therapies and smart wearables that measure and analyze important bodily functions from the sleep cycle to the pulse. As is so often the case in life, what you really need depends on you.
The fact is: if you want to take a closer look at the topic of longevity – and in a beautiful setting to boot! – Giardino Hotels is the perfect place for you. The mix of informative lectures, a soothing environment and warm hospitality provides the perfect setting to (re)focus on your health.
