Tested for you: „Moss Elixir Face Cream“ from Bionera
The moss cream from Bionera must be something special. 100,000 satisfied customers are claimed (by the company, which has only existed since 2022!). FAZnet has tested it and found it to be recommendable. And even the reputable Handelsblatt devoted an article to the moss cream. All this made me quite curious. I then ordered the product from the manufacturer’s website. It’s currently available at a reduced price of 69.90 euros instead of 89.90 euros. The delivery was not long in coming and I was able to start my test.
MossElixir in a green jar
The cream comes in a green glass jar that has a high-quality appearance and is pleasant to the touch. It is color-coordinated with the ingredient. The entire skincare line is based on a moss extract, the trademarked MossElixir. What exactly is behind it, however, is not disclosed, although the Bionera website states: “Our trademarked Moss Elixir has already won numerous awards.” Phytol (physcomitrella patens moss culture extract) is on the list of ingredients alongside a number of other ingredients such as avocado oil, aloe vera extract and shea butter.
Moss is one of the oldest and most resilient plants in the world. It has existed for over 470 million years. It is remarkable that scientific assessments have only recently been carried out. A study by the Max Planck Institute in Leipzig has shown that moss extract can strengthen the skin’s barrier function. This protects it from external influences such as UV rays and pollutants, while at the same time promoting its regeneration. It can store moisture better, cell regeneration is promoted and the skin cells become more robust against everyday stress factors.
Mosses in the scientific field
These are precisely the abilities that have allowed mosses to survive even under extreme conditions by constantly renewing their cells. In 2021, the journal Experimental Dermatology published a study that also confirmed that moss extracts have anti-inflammatory properties, which benefits the skin for conditions such as acne or eczema, redness and swelling. Due to its versatile effect, moss is indeed a promising ingredient that can also effectively counteract signs of ageing. This can contribute to a smoother appearance and improved skin texture.
